6:10 Funding (Anne-Laure)
- Romanian Student Association
Cultural student group representing Romanian Culture. Here to request a transfer of funds ($71.91) for Easter Orthodox celebration since the group needs additional money over the soft cap previously approved. There are leftover funds from other events held previously this year, which they want to put towards their Easter event. Orthodox Easter is this coming Sunday.
The request of a transfer of $71.91 passes.
The second request is for a Romanian Film Festival. They are collaborating with a comparable group in Berkeley and several other co-sponsors on campus and in the bay area. The theme of this year’s festival is about issues of Judaism in Romania. The request is for honoraria for $450, $350 for refreshments, and film screening rights of $2000.
President Cruz would like for us to note that screen rights can be waived when it is directly related to a student’s research. Recommendation from the funding committee is $450 for honoraria only.
There is a request for $350 for refreshments to come out of programming discretionary. Passes 9-0-1. The remaining request for screening rights is being tabled to see if a better amount (ideally free) can be negotiated.
- Bhakti Yoga Club
Nonsectarian group hosts various events about spiritual living. The request is for a talk about archaeology, the general view of how humans in our current form have existed over several time scales despite the time scales are different for different cultures. Request is $300 for honoraria. The event is within the week and it is not in the calendar. They promise to update the calendar.
$300 passes by consensus pending it is entered in the calendar.
Social/political/academic group for the LGBT grad community and its allies. 2 Requests 1.) Gunhill Road screening co-sponsored with Mecha, LaFa, El Centro Chicano. Request is for $100 for honoraria. Screening is May 27. Second request is for $200 for “Towards a a critical transgender movement.” Several groups on the campus are co-sponsoring this- some are academic units, some VSOs, some alum, some community centers. The request is for bringing in two authors for Thursday April 12. The event is in the GSC calendar.
Both events for ( the $100 and the $200) passes by consensus.
- Islamic Society of Stanford University
Social and religious space for Muslim students and the greater Stanford community.
Request for prospective freshmen lunch on April 27. Request for food. Lunch for 10 grad students for a total of $80.
Study break during finals week. Request for $60.
TGIJ- event exploring social and community issues. Request is for food for $250.
BBQ May 5 for food. $400 is recommended.
$790 is the total.
There is objection. One objection is that this is an undergraduate focused group. The reply is that the graduate students form the backbone of the islamic community at Stanford and all events- regardless of scope- include grad students.
There is a request for event by event voting.
Prospective Freshman Welcome event $80- Passes 9-0-1
TGIJ event $250- Passes 8-0-2
BBQ event $400- Passes 6-1-3
Finals Study Break event $60- Passes 4-3-3
6:48 Update from SSE (Neveen)
Accounts update. Not much has changed. For the exception of formal, all accounts are reconciled. Grad formal tickets sales have not been deposited. $26585 was sold in grad tickets sales and Neveen will look into making sure that money gets deposited. The GSC reserve has not changed.
7:00 Field day and Block party Update(Cathy/Justin F.)
$3,500 is the request for both events not including the GSC pre block party BBQ.
Big ticket items are for food and beverage.
Details of what these are can be found in the April 4 meeting minutes.
Request of $3,100 from programming discretionary approved. $400 from GSC-GSPB co-sponsorship approved.
As for the pre block party BBQ, what should the food consist of and how much do we want to spend? What’s the manpower? Suggestion is to investigate preparing a BBQ for 3 hours (600-800 people?) and put a reasonable budget together accordingly. Cathy will follow-up with an estimate of food only.
7:13 Bills on previous notice
Both need to be approved by role call votes independently.
1. Appointment to Constitutional Council
Interested in law and the student government. She is a freshman interested in political.
She is approved 10-0-0
2. Financial Manager Reappointment
Neveen looks forward to being the Financial Manager for another year and to implement/institutionalize SSE and ASSU’s mission. Neveen is not just build in systems to the SSE that will be stable fabric for the ASSU given its high turnover rate. She is in the process of creating a CEO/FM master document approved by the board of directors that cover the most relavant info for years to come so transitions will be much better.
Q: Why are reimbursements slow for SSE?
A: There was a perfect storm of factors that happend at once
-completely new team
-new accounting team- transitions lost
-staff members in the past did not hold the standards that needed to be held
-the ASSU has grown tremendously
She is approved 10-0-0
7:29 Discussion of next year’s Budget Tabled
7:29 New Business
The current ASSU parliamentarian’s pay may for 2011-2012 from the GSC partition may be revoked due to a crude number of absence.
