Graduate Academic Life Survey

The GSC is pleased to present the "Final Report - 2004 Stanford University Graduate Academic Life Survey" to the Stanford community. This report summarizes key results from the survey conducted in February 2004.

Satisfaction rates with the nine issue areas (e.g., coursework, advising, quals, etc.) are presented by school, degree category, and department.

The GSC hopes this document will generate constructive conversations within schools and departments focused on using the many strengths of graduate education at Stanford to improve those areas revealed by the survey to have high rates of dissatisfaction among students.

Information for Student Groups Requesting Analysis of the 2004 Stanford Graduate Academic Life Survey

The Graduate Student Council encourages OSA registered graduate student groups to access the data from the 2004 Stanford University Graduate Academic Life Survey in order to strengthen and improve graduate education available to Stanford students. To assist groups in accessing this information, the GSC has created the following process to facilitate this access.

Step 1: Complete request form.

Requesting groups must be registered with the Office of Student Activities (OSA). To register your group, click here. New groups can register during the first two weeks of fall, winter, and spring quarters. Requesting groups must be graduate student groups or groups with a significant graduate focus.

This form asks you to specify your research questions, the survey questions you would like analyzed and the key analytic groups (e.g., degree category, gender, ethnicity, etc.) in which you are interested. The survey instrument can be accessed here

Step 2: Submit the request form.

The completed request form should be to the GSC at gsc@assu.stanford.edu. The subject of the email should read "Analysis Request: 2004 Graduate Academic Life Survey".

Step 3: Approval/rejection of request.

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) will review the analysis request form. The GSC will primarily be assessing the requests for how the proposed analyses will strengthen and improve graduate education at Stanford.

Step 4: Forward approved requests to OIRDS.

Approved analysis requests will be forwarded to the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support (OIRDS). OIRDS staff will contact the requesting group to confirm a delivery date for the analysis.

Step 5: Distribution of analyses.

Completed analyses will be distributed to both the requesting group and the GSC.
