Advertising to Graduate Students
Trying to contact graduate students can be tough if you don't know how. Here are some tips to get you started!
GSC Grad Events E-mail Bulletin
The GSC requires that all groups who receive funding from it advertise on the weekly GSC Grad Events e-mail bulletin. Advertising is very easy. Simply fill out this form by 6 p.m. the Sunday one week before the event. The Grad Events Bulletin is compiled early Monday morning from all the submissions, then e-mailed to a huge voluntary e-mail distribution list.

Department Flyers
Most departments have bulletin boards on which to place flyers; they also usually have mailboxes for their graduate students. Flyering these locations, either by going around to each department or contracting with the ASSU Ad Agency (e-mail ad-agency@sse.stanford.edu) is another way to advertise events.

Department E-mail Lists
Pretty much every department maintains an e-mail list (sometimes more than one) of its graduate students. The administrator who runs the list will post mailings that relate to that department to this list, so forwarding announcements of relevant events to these people is one way to get the word out about events.

The Stanford Daily
Entrance polls at GSC events have found that very few graduate students read advertisements in The Daily. Therefore, if you are trying to reach graduate students, it is a waste of money to advertise in the Daily. However, listing events in The Daily's "Once Around The Quad" (OATQ) column is free, so it can't hurt.

Music at Stanford
The music department maintains an e-mail list for Stanford community members interested in attending musical events at Stanford. "Music at Stanford" comes out quarterly with a list of scheduled musical events. Weekly updates remind list members of upcoming musical events. For information, contact beth.youngdoff@stanford.edu.

International Graduate Students
Approximately 30% of Stanford graduate students are from other countries. The Bechtel International Center maintains several e-mail lists for international students who are interested in social and cultural events. Among these, icenter-social@lists.Stanford.EDU has approximately 800 subscribers. However, other Bechtel lists may be better suited for your event. For more information, contact Julien Papillon, jpnp@stanford.edu or owner-icenter-social@lists.stanford.edu.
