Stanford Student Relief: Relieve, Rebuild, Restore
Despite an unsurpassed mobilization of funds to help the Indian Ocean Tsunami survivors, there is a largely unfulfilled need to generate short-term funds and to promote long-term relief efforts. Stanford Student Relief (SSR) is a testimony not only to our efforts to help the victims of the disaster, but also a symbol of the unity that exists at Stanford for this cause. The group has the strong backing of the OSA, the Haas Center, the ASSU, the GSC, and President John Hennessy, who will encourage faculty and staff to match the contributions made to Stanford Student Relief by students like you.
In the aftermath of the tsunamis, children are unfortunately the single most vulnerable group. It is indeed a disturbing thought that in the difficult months ahead, they will stand much higher risks of being kidnapped, orphaned, or sold into sex-slavery. Hence, all funds immediately raised by Stanford Student Relief will go to "Save the Children" to aid their efforts to better the lives of these children in the communities affected by the tsunami disaster. Such a noble cause would allow each of us to play a small but crucial role in helping and healing an entire generation at the level of the international community.
Over the next month, Stanford Student Relief plans to work with the entire community and raise $100,000. The group also has long-term goals to work with students, faculty, and other organizations to create awareness about tsunamis, other natural disasters, and their impact on communities. We will promote research to create a better understanding of these calamities, design early warning systems, and mobilize effective relief efforts in the future.
By pledging a donation to "Save the Children" through Stanford Student Relief, each and every one of us at Stanford can be leaders in this noble and urgent cause. Donations can be made by writing a check to "Stanford Student Relief" or online using a credit card at . Please forward checks to:
Varun Gajendran
P.O. Box 17980
Stanford, CA 94309
If you or your group would like to collaborate with SSR for future projects, please feel free to contact Varun , Srihari or Gabriel .
