MENTAL HEALTH

When the pressures of an advanced degree program get overwhelming, there's someone who understands, both at Stanford and outside.

At Stanford:

  • Stanford Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Counseling and psychological services for the Stanford community, including free short-term counseling, support groups, and crisis counseling

  • The Graduate Life Office (GLO)

The GLO is a Student Affairs unit available to help graduate students. GLO deans are available in their offices for personal consultation and advising support. In crisis situations, a GLO dean is also available by pager 24 hours a day at (650) 845-0323.

  • The Bridge Peer Counseling Center

The Bridge is a student group offering free and confidential peer counseling 24 hours a day at (650) 723-3392. The Bridge also welcomes drop-ins for counseling 9 am to midnight at 549 Salvatierra Walk, right next to the campus bike shop and across from the Law school.

External Help:

  • The National Grad Student Crisis Line

l-877-GRAD-HLP, the National Grad Student Crisis Line, is staffed by trained counselors who understand your unique pressures and know how to help. More information about the crisis line, including how to obtain free materials to promote the crisis line at new graduate student orientation or at departmental or organizational activities, is available on the NGSCL web site.
