HOW IS THE GSC FUNDED?

The GSC's operations are funded in part by the ASSU endowment and in part by the Graduate Student General Fee (GSGF).

The ASSU Endowment is the primary asset of the ASSU. The endowment is managed by the Financial Manager of the ASSU. It is inveted with the goal of covering the operating expenses of the ASSU. The endowment is analogus to the University's endowment, though it is much smaller. A yearly payout from the endowment is used to pay GSC expenses. Each year, any money received from the endowment but not spent returns to the endowment.

The GSGF is a portion of the ASSU fees grad students pay every quarter (the rest of the ASSU fees go to Special Fee groups). The GSGF funds the programming activities of the GSC, as well as those of student groups that request funds through the GSC funding committeee. The GSGF has a base rate, and it increases every year at the rate of inflation. Each year, any money received from the GSGF but not spent is moved into our reserves.

THE GSC FUNDING COMMITTEE

The GSC Funding Committee considers funding requests made by Stanford student groups and prepares a funding recommendation to present to the entire GSC.
