  • Sponsored by student group Iberia and co-sponsored by the Graduate Student Council and the ASSU Speakers Bureau
This talk is sponsored by Student Group Iberia and co-sponsored by the Graduate Student Council and the ASSU Speakers Bureau

Professor Joseba Arregi will present a Conference regarding the present social and political reality in the Basque provinces of Spain.

Professor Arregi is well known in Spain and particularly in the Basque provinces, having been the Secretary of Cultural Relations and Spokesman for the Basque Autonomous Government - he was also instrumental in bringing the world famous Guggenheim Museum to Bilbao - and a leader in the PNV (The Basque Nationalist Party).

Professor Arregi has thus an unparalleled knowledge of the political and social intricacies at play in the Basque Country.

This conference, coming in the wake of a similar one given by the President of the Basque Autonomous Government, Juan José Ibarretxe, on Feb 14, gives those attending a chance to contrast the different approaches to the "Basque Problem" between those presently in power, and those who would follow the Spanish Constitution as it is written.
