4. GCC Pub (Paul):
Last Wednesday there was a meeting about the pub. Chris Griffith talked about how the administration is involved in operating the pub. Looking to carve out a role for GSC in operation of the pub. Suggestion box will be placed in the pub. Advisory committee will go over comments with pub managers. Venue for bringing up issues with pub; they are open to listening. Talk to Paul, Alex, or Maria if interested in following-up.
5. 6:10 GSC principles and procedures (Jenny by way of Paul):
Jenny Allen wanted GSC to discuss principles and procedures for posting to the GSC list. To clarify, the list is meant for announcements. Another issue is attendance to GSC meetings. This is less critical over the summer as long as quorum is obtained, but things will pick up in the fall.
6. 6:20 Funding (Adam)
Request for funds by a Chinese student group. The group would like to host a summer picnic July 8 and also a fall event for helping new students get started at Stanford.
Budget:
Food $1010 $1010 $800 Programming Expenses $60 $60 $60 Marketing $50 $50 $20 Totals $1120 $1120 $880
Objections?
Passed by consensus
7. 6:25 New Business
1. World cup. Yosem Companys (hope this is correct!!) talked about showing the games in the GCC. Celebrations partly sponsored by GSC. Subsidized pub tickets limited to $2 each. Proposal is to fund the remaining $1,500 out the $2,000 originally discussed at a previous meeting. On average, 250 people watching per big game in afternoon and morning, and even 50-100 at the 6am game. Total of approximately 600 people per game. $250 funding was obtained from Bechtel International Center. Funding also requested from GSPB. Some corporate sponsorship as well; a TV station is filming news here.
Paul: commented that it’s a great atmosphere and something good for GSC to be supporting. The Havana room is being used to expand space. Unclear how much money the pub is making; have lots of orders for big games, but not as much food available for sale in the morning, and sometimes the waitresses/waiters can’t even get out into the crowd because it’s so busy. Groups are allowed to come and bring their own food.
Objections to $1,500 funding passed by consensus subject to $2 maximum ticket subsidy?
Passed by consensus
2. Buying a sound system for small events (Adam).
Adam discussed the idea of buying such a system. Portability and flexibility are key. Two speakers, mikes, a mixer. Could be used when groups invite people to speak, or whatever. Will cost maybe $2,000 to $2,200. System will pay for itself in 1.5 years assuming small rental charge. Will presumably be stored with Tom, like the GSPB system. Must be purchased this week before money disappears. Anybody interested in being involved should let Paul know. The issue has already been voted on (money already transferred to discretionary account), so no vote required.
3. T-shirts (Donna):
Donna Winston discussed upcoming GSC T-shirts. The front will say “Property of GSC; established 1996”. The back will say “Come play with our team”. Cost will be $680 for 20 mens shirts and15 womens shirts.
4. Fourth of July (Paul):
What’s happening? Paul says the GSC will put on celebration (which will happen before the next meeting). Everything is under control, although more volunteers needed. Will be outside Willis in Rains. Possibly some conflict with World Cup games.
5. Suggestion box (Paul):
Paul says one for the pub has been ordered. Question of whether to have one for GSC and separate one for pub, or combine them. Paul says that for now we’ll start with just a pub box, then maybe later add one for GSC. Some felt that GSC had enough input options, but others thought a box would be good.
