EC Bill 07: Elections Committee Selection Listen to this segment We discuss proposed changes to the joint bylaws regarding elections, brought to us by Bernard Fraga and Danny Arbeiter. There will at some point be a link to the document here. Changes include a rephrasing of the committee structure, to help keep representative numbers from the different populations (i.e. graduate, undergraduate). Also, a change is proposed to the incentive structure for the election commissioner position, such that they are encouraged to complete training of the following year’s election commissioner during the spring quarter, rather than the summer, and then receive their final payment earlier. Vote: 12 for, 0 opposed, 0 abstaining. Passes with required 2/3 majority. Academic: Create incentive structure to improve faculty/student advising Academic: Provide a list of courses that students from outside the department can take. Diversity: Have university adopt a five-year plan to increase minorities and women. Diversity: Secure funding for programs that increase graduate diversity. Healthcare: Provide more information concerning health insurance online. Healthcare: Organize info sessions for students with dependents for spring/fall 2007. New Business Listen to this segment There is a new blog at blog.stanford.edu which allows individuals to register and post entries. This might be a good way to let the graduate student community know what’s going on with the GSC without needing to go through secondary sources such as the Stanford Daily. The official ASSU/GSC sites aren’t getting a lot of traffic, so this might be a good option of presenting our news to many people. |
