ACSS – Associated Chinese Students of Stanford. They have 4 events coming up, requesting funding for all of them. Events are as follows: - Have a New Chinese student orientation party and BBQ. - Advising program kick-off program. They have developed a mentorship program between new students and faculty members. This event will introduce the new students to the program. - Advising program seminar for future career plans for engineers, which will include representatives from members of both the academic community and industry. - Family Center Seminar. This program intends to aid in the cultural integration of Asian families at Stanford. Across the four events, money requested goes towards food, programming, and some honorarium. The group is requesting $2900, but due to caps, the maximum amount to be given is $2500. $2500 is approved by consensus. ii. Scandinavians at Stanford. The Scandinavians at Stanford are requesting their budget for the entire year, to aid in the implementation of the following events. - Crayfish party in late August, to which they expect 60 grad students to attend. - Welcome party in beginning of October, with 80 grad students expected. The event will be held in EV between Studios 5 and 6 and will serve regular BBQ as well as Scandinavian treats. - Right before winter break will hold a winter party, somewhere around December 13th, to coincide with the Festival of Lucia. Will have traditional baked goods, mulled wine, etc. - Spring BBQ – Will serve BBQ foods and Scandinavian treats, will be held in EV. - Midsummer party in beginning of June with picnic food served. - Movie nights with screenings of Scandinavian movies. They expect 120 grad students to attend over the course of the events. The groups requests $3085, but the Committee recommends $2960. Giving $2960 passes by consensus. 5) 6:12 ASSU Update (Hershey) – Listen to this segment i. The Mausoleum party will be held on Saturday, October 27th. There will be Marguerite busses providing transportation. No alcohol is allowed at the event, given restrictions from the President’s office, which is funding the event. It is suggested that the GSC consider a pre-party to the Mausoleum Party to draw more grad students. ii. Full moon on the Quad will happen at some point, but the date has not yet been decided. iii. Big game is on a Saturday in fall quarter, going from 4pm to 7pm. This will be followed by a concert from 8-10:30. A Row block Party will occur after the concert. [ADDITION – Big Game is Saturday December 1st] iv. All quantitative course evaluation data will be released soon, which will help with content for the course guide. Web development for classes.stanford.edu is underway, with the goal of including information about textbooks (including buying and selling), syllabi, and course evaluations (Potentially including qualitative data as well, though this is not certain yet. v. The current Dean of Students (Maureen Powers) resigned recently, though will continue to be in the office through Sep 14th. A search for a new Dean of Students will be starting soon. 6) 6:17 New Business Listen to this segment i. Polina pumps up NGSO (New Graduate Student Orientation), which had a successful first recruitment meeting. A sign-up sheet is passed around for anyone additional who might want to volunteer. ii. The Raging Waters trip is coming up this weekend. Fen reports that 40 people (the trip maximum) are currently signed up, but that unfortunately typically means that only 20 actually show up, so we should continue to spread the word. |
